Mouse - Liver - 680.tif
Image Name: 680.tif
Image Annotation: MPD-like Myeloid Leukemia, Liver, 100x. Extensive sinusoidal infiltration with maturing myeloid and erythroid cells (Gilliland and his pathologists call this extramedullary hematopoiesis, but I think this is begging the question because we do not know that HSC actually reside in these tissues). There are usually periportal aggregates of macrophage/histiocytic cells, sometimes fairly large. These can exist independently of CML-like disease (see below), but in cases of short-latency CML-like disease the histiocytes are derived from the same multipotential progenitors that initiate the myeloproliferative disease (Li et al., 1999), and hence represent part of the MPD.
Staining Method: Hematoxylin and Eosin Staining Method
Diagnosis: MPD-like Myeloid Leukemia
