Mouse - Skin - MC02-0432.pff
Image Name: MC02-0432.pff
Image Annotation: Squamous cell carcinoma arising in an abasic endonuclease +/- mouse treated with a two-step chemical carcinogenesis protocol. The diagnosis of carcinoma is based on the presence of microinvasive squamous nests at the deep aspect of the lesion. This tumor exhibits a crater- like growth pattern reminiscent of that seen in keratoacanthoma, however, the diagnosis of human keratoacanthoma is based on the clinical observation that these lesions rapidly regress, a phenomenon that is infrequently observed in mice. The pathology panel therefore discourages the use of keratoacanthoma as a diagnosis and suggests that it can be used as a method of describing a crater-like growth pattern seen in some squamous proliferative lesions.
