Image Annotation: Melanoma arising in a metallothionine-hepatocyte growth factor (MT-HGF) transgenic mouse that has undergone perinatal UV exposure. In contrast to other mouse models of melanoma to date, dramatic intraepidermal spread of melanocytes is present in MT-HGF transgenic mice that have undergone perinatal UV exposure that is better visualized in skin_26 and skin_27. This finding is characteristic of early human melanoma and is called Pagetoid spread. In this case, the tumor has a verrucous low power appearance.
