Image Annotation: Malignant spindle cell neoplasm arising in a C3H mouse treated with Kodacel-filtered FS40 lamps (see also skin_46). The overlying squamous epithelium is hyperplastic and atypical with areas focally amounting to squamous cell carcinoma in situ. The presence of a preneoplastic /neoplastic squamous lesion raises the possibility that the underlying malignant spindle cell neoplasm is a spindle cell carcinoma, however, a definitive origin of the spindled cells (see skin_48) from the overlying epidermis was not identified.
