Image Annotation: Hyperplastic tail skin from a K5-IkBa transgenic mouse. The epidermis is hyperplastic (7 - 10 cells in thickness), but in contrast to skin_33, the nuclear atypia, hyperchromasia , and crowding are essentially restricted to the basal cell layer and the remainder of the epidermis appears to differentiate relatively normally. This pattern of atypia closely resembles that of human actinic keratoses.
