Mouse - Skin - skin_135.tif
Image Name: skin_135.tif
Image Annotation: A nodular tumor arising in a Patched+/- mouse treated with ultraviolet radiation and oral arsenic. This high power view reveals a malignant squamous tumor composed of basaloid cells that abruptly keratinize and form a large keratin-filled cyst. The stromal component adjacent to the epithelium is spindled, cellular, and monotonous (see also skin_133 and skin_137). The morphology of the epithelial component would most commonly be seen in squamous cell carcinoma, but could also be seen in squamoid tumors derived from the follicular epithelium, such as human trichilemmal carcinoma.
