Image Annotation: Well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma arising in a squamous papilloma on the back of a Sencar mouse treated with a two-step chemical carcinogenesis protocol. This lesion (see also skin_148 and skin_149) developed in the context of a squamous papilloma, but exhibits widespread underlying stromal fibrosis (desmoplasia). This pattern is frequently seen in human verrucous squamous cell carcinoma, which also has a characteristically broad invasive front without evidence of microinvasion.
